Origin of the Name: Francis Brockton came into Vancouver on a Surveyor ship (HMS Plumber) as the ship's engineer under the direction of Captain Richards when, in 1859 , Brockton found a vein of coal. After the discovery, which Richards reported to Governor James Douglas, Richards named the area of the find "Coal Harbour" and named "Brockton Point", at the east end of what is now Stanley Park in Vancouver, after Francis Brockton. We at Brockton Appraisals Inc. appreciate Vancouver's origins and have embraced a wee bit of history in our name.  The 1930's picture at the top of our website shows Brockton Point back when it had the lighthouse keeper's abode (understood to be one of Vancouver's first houses built).
